August Newsletter 2024: Beginning the Year!
At the beginning of the new school year, we hosted two interest meets during lunch hours to encourage students to join the team. The executives presented the various subteams and what to expect from the competition. If you are interested, the slides are here. You can also find work sessions and general competition dates there. However, please use our calendar on the website, which is always up to date.
Introducing the Deep Blue executive team. Nicholas is the head honcho and CEO (Chief Executive Officer). The CEO oversees team representation in our school and at competitions. He runs all meets and mediates conflict within the team. Besides being the CEO, Nicholas has been a part of the Senac (sensing and actuation) team; he also enjoys playing the bass for various jazz ensembles.
A.P. is the team’s COO (Chief Operating Officer). He oversees the operational functions of the team. He additionally manages people on the team and ensures the project leads are adequate for leading. A.P. has been a part of the Senac subteam and still oversees Senac training.
Samuel is the team’s CTO (Chief Technical Officer). The CTO runs all of the technical teams in programming and design. In Samuel’s free time, he likes building model rockets. He has been part of the team’s design subteam and still plays a big part in the design aspect of the team. (Katherine) is the team’s CCO (Chief Communication Officer). Katherine is in charge of communication and media influence within the team. As well as finance, like seeking sponsors for funds. She has been part of the fabrication team, and in her free time, likes to play video games and create art.
During work session hours, we let the new members delve into and explore the different subteams and start basic training for each team. If you are unfamiliar with the different subteams, our team consists of four main ones.
- Fabrication: they utilize power tools to cut and craft the physical aspects of the robot.
- Sensing and actuation: uses physics and math to set up wires and motors that help the robot move.
- Programming: works on robot code with various coding languages, allowing the robot to run autonomously.
- Design: creates 3D models on the program, Onshape, which serves as blueprints for manufacturing
- Business/media team: Works on merchandise and outreach to teach our community about STEM. Our different subsections have chosen veteran rookies to share their knowledge with the new members.
We aim to train our members to compete in November’s upcoming rookie competition with MA (Menlo Atherton) and other local FRC teams. More news will be posted as we get closer. If you have any questions feel free to reach out with this email contact@carlmontrobotics.org.
